Djokovic defeated Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (3) to win the Wimbledon title for the fourth time! An astonishing 13th trophy of his career, the fourth highest in the history of men's tennis! That is some achievement.
Spectators cheered wildly when Djokovic lost the plot in the 10th game of the third set, serving three double faults. The Serbian had earlier complained of a hostile crowd behaving poorly when he played Kyle Edmund on Centre Court and he was at it again in the final.
Cameras caught him saying to the umpire: “Tell them to shut the f* up” as it moved to 5-5 in the third. But he put the ill behind him to recover and close out the match in a third set tie.
The win was also his first title on his ATP tour for over 12 months, his last winning coming at Eastbourne on July 1, 2017. It wasn’t a great final, but Djokovic won’t care. He’s back and it’s unlikely he’s going to stop here. Expect him to go on a big run during the US hardcourt season.
Watch out! The US Open comes next. But Wimbledon 2018 is over.
